II. Background | |
KIAA1549-BRAF is the most frequently identified genetic mutation in sporadic pilocytic astrocytoma (PA), creating a fusion BRAF (f-BRAF) protein with increased BRAF activity.It is generated by a focal tandem duplication at 7q34 and acts as an oncogene by driving the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway.The fusion was almost exclusively found in pilocytic astrocytomas, diffuse leptomeningeal glioneuronal tumours and high-grade astrocytomas with piloid features. | |
